Alternative legal services: what are we really talking about?

By Laia Moncosí

Alternative Legal Service Providers (ALSPs) are reshaping the legal sector with innovative business models that differ from traditional firms.

It is important to note that all ALSPs do not form a homogeneous bloc, nor do we seek to replace traditional law firms. Our aim is to complement the legal sector by offering specialised options depending on the type of work required.

Flexible legal services (FLS) firms collaborate with both corporate legal departments and law firms, providing technical/legal or sector-specific expertise in matters requiring a certain specialisation or supporting them through secondments in cases of absences or peak working periods.

FLS firms are therefore focused on two aims: to set ourselves apart in the market by showing that not all ALSPs are the same and to promote a more flexible model among business lawyers, which allows them to work on a project basis.
